George Ng'ang'a
I grew up with a strong passion for technology and problem-solving, which led me to pursue a Bachelor's Degree in Information Technology at Maseno University. My early experiences taught me resilience, especially as I navigated academic challenges and learned to adapt to changing environments.
One of the most difficult experiences I faced was balancing academics and personal growth during a transitional phase in life. This taught me the value of time management, focus, and perseverance.
One of the moments I felt particularly proud of myself was when I successfully qualified for competitive university entry with a B plain grade. This achievement was not just a reflection of my academic abilities, but also of my resilience and determination. Throughout my studies, I faced various challenges that tested my focus and perseverance. However, I stayed committed to my goals, balancing both academic and personal responsibilities, and consistently pushed myself to improve.
The moment I received the results, I felt a profound sense of accomplishment, knowing that my hard work and discipline had paid off. It was a validation of the hours of effort I had invested in my studies, and it gave me the confidence to pursue higher education with the same drive and commitment. This achievement marked a significant milestone in my academic journey and solidified my belief in my ability to succeed even in the most competitive environments.
A moment I felt especially proud of myself was when I qualified to join Maseno University to pursue a degree in Information Technology. It was particularly meaningful because Maseno had also been my placement for high school years earlier, but I couldn't join at that time due to challenges my family faced, especially related to my father's circumstances. Overcoming those setbacks and finally achieving my dream of studying at the same institution was a powerful reminder of resilience and determination. It marked a significant turning point in my life, reinforcing the belief that with persistence, delayed dreams can still become reality.
My dream is to become an IT Specialist and a Tech Entrepreneur, contributing to innovative solutions that address societal challenges. To achieve this, I plan to enhance my skills through practical projects, internships, and continuous learning.
Once I reach my goals, I aim to uplift my family by providing financial stability, support my community by mentoring young tech enthusiasts, and contribute to organizations like WEF by sharing my knowledge and resources.
The conditions in many parts of the country highlight the urgent need for change. Overcrowding, inadequate housing, poor sanitation, and limited access to clean water and healthcare paint a challenging picture. Education opportunities are scarce, with many children unable to attend school consistently due to financial constraints or lack of facilities. Despite the incredible resilience and ingenuity of these communities, the cycle of poverty remains difficult to break.
If I had the power to change Kenya, I would focus on enhancing access to quality education and technology to ensure every young person has the tools to succeed. Professionally, I recognize that education and technology are key drivers of economic development. By equipping the youth with relevant skills, we can empower them to tackle the challenges of our time, contribute to national growth, and innovate for the future.
On a personal level, I know how transformative education can be. Having seen the opportunities it creates, I believe every Kenyan child deserves access to quality learning, regardless of their background. I would prioritize bridging the digital divide by bringing affordable internet access and technology to underserved areas, including informal settlements, to open up opportunities for e-learning, remote work, and global connectivity.
By addressing these systemic issues, we can uplift communities, break the cycle of poverty, and lay the foundation for a more equitable, innovative, and prosperous Kenya.
Success is not final; failure is not fatal: It is the courage to continue that counts.
